Rescued & Loved

On a sunny morning in Haiti, we arrived at the Children’s Home ready for a day working with the kids. As I made my way to the office, I passed classrooms filled with kids. Resources have been limited due to the coronavirus, but Pastor Poyis had improvised and brought in a couple of adult teachers to facilitate classes as usual. A few of the older children were also helping out by teaching the younger ones. I was amazed to see how well-behaved the children were, despite their classes looking a little different than they usually would. I loved hearing the soft chatter and laughter of the kids. I am so thankful they have Poyis, the director, and the Children’s Home moms who take care of them. They call Poyis “Papi,” and he really is their earthly father. Imagine having more than 100 kids, and knowing each of them personally. They love him and he loves them.

These kids were abandoned, in the truest sense of the word. Many of them don’t even know who their mom and dad were. All of our children were rescued by the government before being brought to our Children’s Homes, and many of them were either enslaved, trafficked, or on the street. They range in age from four- to seventeen-years-old. The fact that these children are now in a safe and healthy environment displays God’s grace. Our goal is that they will be taken care of, nourished, educated, and exposed to the church and the gospel of Jesus Christ on a regular basis.

This takes time, and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of a loving staff and a loving church. Poyis talks to the children often about Jesus and God’s love for them, and a few of the older ones are starting to understand what it means to be rescued—not only on earth, but also rescued from sin by Jesus, our savior.
