A Special Time Together

Whenever I visit the Children’s Home, I’m reminded of how much our kids love people. I walked in the door with a couple members of a recent team, and five seconds hadn’t gone by before the children came over to meet us. The little ones love to be held, and the older kids just wanted to be around people. We sat down and the kids began to bring their homework over to work near us. One boy started showing me a science book, and I started pointing at pictures of animals. He would say the animal’s name in Creole and I would say it in English—then we would repeat after each other. He and the other boys laughed at my pronunciation every time.

The translators were busy this afternoon, but we still found ways to communicate. One of the younger children was particularly shy when we first arrived, but after a short time of goofing around, she warmed up quickly. Many of the young kids have only spent time around other Haitians, so that can sometimes be a hurdle. A small one, though.

I am so thankful for the ministry here with Pastor Poyis and his church. Our Children’s Homes are really an extension of this church in caring for and investing into these children. My prayer is that our kids will grow up someday to be part of this church, learning to serve and live well in Haiti as they come to know the gospel.

As always, we had a wonderful evening with the kids. Even though we couldn’t understand each other, it was a special time of fun and fellowship as we spent time together.
