Prayer Requests

Religion & Vodou

One evening, I started asking Jimmy some questions about Haitian culture. It’s funny, even though he speaks good English, there are times when we still have to repeat sentences in order to understand each other. This happens with Poyis as well. Learning a language and a different culture takes time. One thing we discussed was religion and Vodou. Jimmy shared with me that Vodou is still a big part of Haitian culture—I learned that most people, even pagans, believe Vodou exists. The easiest way for me to describe it is that Vodou is the work of [...]

The Gospel Is Bigger

Poyis and I spent an hour together one evening as he updated me on all that was going on in his church and at the Children’s Homes. I am constantly reminded of the challenges of raising kids. I had three, but Poyis has 120. He does a remarkable job. The staff face issues that many parents would be familiar with—students occasionally neglecting responsibilities, pushing against restrictions—and they navigate these difficulties with grace. I have learned to pray the same things I’ve prayed for my own children for the kids in our homes, asking that God [...]

Join Us in Prayer

On Friday mornings, we typically share updates from Haiti—stories from a recent trip or highlights of ministry over the past months. Today, we want to share a specific update on how you can be praying with us for Connect 2 Ministries. Since the presidential assassination last summer, Haiti has struggled to stabilize. We continue to see health and food needs arising on a daily basis, and gang activity has been an added concern. Please pray that God would protect our children and ministry partners, and ask the Lord with us that Haiti’s November elections would bring [...]

2022 World Day Against Child Labor

June 12 is World Day Against Child Labor, and every year, this day gives us reason to seek the Lord while thanking Him for the work He has already done in Haiti. More than 120 children rescued from slavery now call our Regency and Mercy Children’s Homes their home, living in an environment where they are loved, educated, and given a hope-filled future, and all of this is from the Lord. One of these children is Mervius Elange. Elange is fifteen years old, and he joined our Children’s Home a few years ago. He spent much [...]

Water Truck

Since 2014, Onaville, Haiti has been home to the Connect 2 Ministries compound. The Haitian government selected Onaville to relocate people from tent cities in Port-au-Prince after the 2010 earthquake, and it has been estimated that there are 800,000 people living in this barren area. All of these factors make Onaville a unique place for ministry. Our ministry is church centric, which means that everything we do flows out of a local congregation of believers. From the Children’s Homes to the Medical Clinic, all our ministries are run by the church. Along with providing a Christian [...]

His Ways Are Not Our Ways

Part of Connect 2 Ministries’ vision is not only to focus on the Children’s Homes and school, but also to support and equip Haitian pastors in their ministries. We do this partly by supplying food, but also by providing spiritual food and encouragement through in person training gatherings. My goal in a recent Mercy Network meeting was to get to know our pastors and spend some time in God’s Word. We started with introductions and spent the first part of our time getting acquainted. I told the men about my family and church ministry in [...]

A Different Perspective

For some reason there was a lot of traffic on the drive to Onaville one morning. No one really knew what was causing the delay, but the slow drive allowed me to observe the people on the side of the road. Every time I take this drive, I am amazed at the difference in our cultures. The buildings are run down and the roads need repair, but the lifestyles of individual people are even more striking. As we turned down one street, we noticed three young women standing together with their infant babies on the side [...]

He Works in the Details

One of the ways we serve our community in Haiti is by distributing food and supplies. If you’ve been around Connect 2 for long, you know that for a number of years Children’s Hunger Fund has provided Food-Pak boxes that we distribute to churches in Haiti. The primary purpose is to help the needy in the church, but these provisions also give us an opportunity to reach our communities with the gospel message as we share tangible resources. These distributions look a little different now than they have in the past. The last two years [...]

A Heart for the Nations

I went with a team from the US one day to visit the children at the Regency Home. Dr. Jarvis, one of our faithful volunteers, brought them a jump rope, and the games began. It was hot, and many were inside, but they trickled out to see us. It was fun watching Alan, a member of the team who speaks French, converse with some of the kids, especially the older ones. The children learn French, English, and Spanish in school, but will be most fluent in French and Creole as there are many in their country [...]

His Mercy Reigns

On one of our trips to Haiti, we spent a long day out and about before arriving back at the compound around 6:00 p.m. It was cloudy and threatening to rain, but the temperature felt nice. We knew the kids would love an evening outside, so Poyis brought the children out to the front of the Regency Home (the “soccer” area) and told them to run around and play. He brought out a few bikes and let some of the older ones ride them around the field. This was a special treat for them, and I [...]
