Praying Persistently

Praying Persistently During my visit to Haiti in September with a small volunteer team, I wasn’t expecting Poyis to ask me to preach on Sunday. So when he did, I thought he was joking. He wasn’t. Our philosophy at Connect 2 is to NOT have Americans preach because we want Haitians to see their own preachers bring God’s Word. I checked with Greg and both of us agreed that it would be good for me to be visible in front of the church, so they will know who I am.  Fortunately, you learn [...]

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 5

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 1 Friday Afternoon Lunch came. It really helped to eat and rest a little sitting at the table. The temperature was 93, but the humidity made it feel like it was over 100. We got back to the Mercy Home around 1:30, and we were back at it by 1:45. But, right before we started, a really neat thing happened. In fact, this was one of the best highlights of the trip… Pastor Poyis, brought many of the Secondary School boys and girls over from the [...]

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 4

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 4 Friday Morning We started off the morning together and I shared a devotional from Psalm 2 and Revelation 1. The passages gave a picture that the most central part of being a Christian is Christ and submission to  Christ. From before the foundation, through the writing of the Old Testament and Prophets, through His birth, life on earth, burial, and resurrection, until His heavenly state in Revelation 1, Christ is central. Christ is the reason we do what we do each day, and we [...]

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 3

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 3 Thursday The goal for the afternoon was to put all of the beams on top of the posts. This was a big challenge because the beams were to be put on top of the posts which were at least 14 feet high and the beams were heavy. The plan was to have Allan and Dr. J cut the tops off the posts and then have John, Troy, Adam, Chuck and me come behind. Troy, Adam, and John were going to climb the ladder as one beam [...]

2021 Ministry Goals

2021 Ministry Goals We’re all excited to see what God has in store for the rest of the year. Lord-willing, we’ll be able to continue seeing ministry flourish in Haiti. We have 6 big goals we’d love to accomplish. Would you pray with us over the following: In partnership with Children's Hunger Fund, we are excited to work with 30 churches in our network to provide free medical services. Each clinic will provide services for 120 people, estimating over 3,600 new families will hear the Gospel. How to Pray: [...]

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 2

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 2 Tuesday We got to the Mercy Home site around 8 and each of us had a task. The biggest worry continued to be the muddy field. Poyis had brought in some trucks full of loads of dirt and this helped a little. But there wasn’t enough time or dirt to cover the whole area. His guys dug all day and were making progress. The challenge was that water would seep back into a hole that they dug and create a mess. Troy and Chuck cut [...]

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 1

Building Hope for a Bigger Future, Part 1 Last September I took a trip with a small group of American volunteers to our ministry compound in Haiti. The purpose of this particular trip was to build the framework of one wing of the secondary school on the compound of the Mercy Children’s Home. Sunday After breakfast we went to Mercy Children’s Home, which is where we will build the Secondary School. Chuck, our project leader, wanted to take a look and see if we could lay out the locations [...]

2020 Ministry Accomplishments

2020 Ministry Accomplishments Although ministry could have been halted in 2020, we’re so grateful that God had other plans. We also want to express our gratitude to all our supporters, volunteers and prayer warriors. Here are 6 big projects that were accomplished in 2020: In March 2020, a small team of volunteers led by Mark Upson travelled to Haiti to install solar power at the ministry compound and both Children’s Homes. The entire project was funded by faithful supporters of the ministry, and we received donated electrical supplies through our friends [...]

A Biblical Response to an Instagram Comment

This week, as I was scrolling through my same-old Instagram feed, I came across a rather triggering post. I follow a humorous account that posts different things sure to make the Christ-follower laugh. However, this post was anything but funny. The post read:  “Most Short-Term Missions Trips Are Just Vacations That Make You Feel Better About Yourself.” This thought made me nervous. “Do people actually believe this? This must be entirely satirical.” Yet sadly, many people in the comment section entirely dismissed the importance of emotional human connection and even more importantly: the severity of the need to spread [...]
