Just before dark one evening, I noticed that some clouds were rolling in and it looked like rain. The wind picked up, and a humid breeze swept through the compound. The storm developed slowly, and once the sun had set, I sat outside my bedroom door on the porch and watched the lightning and the rain. It was peaceful. One of the nice things about the compound is that it feels like you are miles from city life. Earlier in the day, I had walked on the roof of one of the buildings and looked out at the surrounding countryside. I could see the mountains to the north and west, and the cities to the south and east. As it rained, I thought of how God created the green life on earth; the sea, wind, and rain; and every person who has ever lived. He truly is in control of all things.
As I write this, we are preparing for a flight back to the US. Pastor Poyis will join me on the trip and stay on for a few days in California. We are preparing for a busy week of ministry, but I’m looking forward to the relational aspect of this time. Greg, Poyis, and I will visit four different churches in a five day span, and we will certainly have opportunities to spend time with each other in between. Poyis will also stay with my family for part of this trip, and I am excited to see what the Lord will do in the coming days.
The Lord has His hand on this ministry, and I am grateful for His sovereignty. He holds His church together through the uniting power of the cross, and He continues to save the lost as His light shines in the darkness. He also blesses us, His people, through unexpected acts of grace. Tonight, I am thankful for friendships with other believers; for the hope of an encouraging time of ministry; and for the rain that falls in Haiti as it does across the globe.
