This Christmas season, we have every reason to give. As we thank the Lord for the blessings He’s given us—and praise Him for the daily opportunities we have to share hope with others—we’re looking at five more reasons Christians give freely, joyfully, and often.

  • We give as a channel of God’s provision to others.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17). When we give to others, God is blessing them through us. Our giving is an extension of His kindness.
  • We give as a practice of true religion.
“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40). Serving God means serving others. When we give of our resources, energy, and time, we are doing it as unto the Lord.
  • We give as an act of stewardship.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (1 Peter 4:10). Everything we have belongs to God already, so when we share with others, we are acting as people entrusted with managing another’s resources.
We give generously because our Father does.
  • We give because we’re blessed as we do.
“Do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great” (Luke 6:35). God blesses generosity, and there is no better, safer, and happier place to be than in God’s favor. We give because we know He will smile on us as we do.
  • We give to bring glory to God.
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). As Christians, everything we do is a reflection of Christ. When we give, we do it to bring glory to God, the perfect Giver.

This month, we’re raising money to send 200 audio Bibles for our pastors to distribute in Haiti. Each audio Bible costs $65, and the benefits are immeasurable. These devices make the Word of God accessible in a society where few people read—and we know that where the Word is, there is hope.
