Caring as Christ Cares

If you walk the grounds of our compound in Haiti, you might notice that we have facilities equipped to care for people in every area of life—spirit, mind, and body. The church is at the center, and that ministry directs the educational programs we conduct in our school. Unsurprisingly, the third main building on site is a Medical Clinic, which serves not only our children and pastors, but provides care to the surrounding community as well.

Jesus himself cared for people’s physical needs, so we’ve made it our goal to do the same. In the same way that Christ “saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick,” we strive to show the love of our savior by offering help and care to anyone who needs it (Matthew 14:14). By first meeting these physical needs, our team is able to address the most critical need: forgiveness of sin through the sacrifice of Jesus.

Our clinic is staffed with doctors and nurses who are available daily. Medical services are free, and we are able to charge only a small fee for medications. As of March 2020, the entire ministry compound (including the Medical Clinic) is also completely solar-powered, allowing us to run procedural tests at the laboratory any day of the week.

Twice a week, our clinic provides free vaccines to children from the surrounding communities. We typically treat 200 children on each of these days, and the vaccinations and exams come at no cost to the families. Providing these services gives us better insight into the needs of particular families in the community, and helps us care for them practically by sending a local pastor to check in and see what else they may need. Many families have joined the church, Mission Eglise Chretienne Redemptrice, as a direct result of the relationships they built at the clinic.

By attending to people’s physical ailments, we are able to reach their hearts with the gospel. We thank the Lord for allowing us to become a trusted and vital part of the community through the work of our Medical Clinic.
