Laying a Foundation, Part 6
Friday Afternoon
After breakfast (and seeing Chuck off to the airport—see Part 5 of this series for the story), some of the team went to finish work on the church while the rest of us focused on tying up loose ends at the Children’s Home. Our work with the kids went quickly, and we were saying goodbye after only a couple of hours.
We went back to the compound, where we found the guys building a wardrobe cabinet and working on solar panels. We hung out with them until the projects were finished, and then enjoyed a nice dinner together. Afterward, we spent a little time in John 6, and I can’t help but notice the Lord’s providence once again. This text is a reminder that Christ is the Bread of Life—Jesus tells the people not to clamor for food that doesn’t satisfy, but to seek only the food that does: Himself.
On our last night in Haiti, this was a timely reminder to evaluate our focus—especially as we were preparing to return to a culture that holds all kinds of competing priorities. Truly, Jesus is the Bread of Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him.
Saturday
Our last morning was an early one, and we were at the airport shortly after breakfast. Time in the airport before a return flight is always a sweet time to reflect on the trip. This was a great one, and we all felt spent in the best way possible. The frame of the church building was finished, and our work in the Children’s Home, complete. Once again, we have so much to praise God for.
Until next time.
