Over the last few months, ministry has looked different for Connect 2 Ministries than we might have expected. Haiti has seen ongoing governmental turmoil, and the economy has struggled to stabilize following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021. But in spite of those unforeseen challenges, God has been doing wonderful things in Haiti, especially at our Children’s Homes.

In December 2021, we were able to distribute more than 250 Creole Bibles and audio Bibles to the children at our Regency and Mercy Homes, thanks to our generous donors who partnered with us to “Give a Bible” in 2020. Pastor Poyis led the distribution along with some of our Mercy Network pastors, and it was a very exciting event. Half of the children who received Bibles are residents in our Homes, and the other half come from the surrounding community—Haiti’s literacy rate is low, so we are encouraged to know that through these Bibles, our kids are not only getting an opportunity to extend their learning, but they’re also receiving personal access to God’s Word.

Not long after this, the Regency and Mercy Homes hosted a Vacation Bible School for kids from the surrounding community; it was put on by some of the older kids at the Children’s Homes. American teams have gone in the past, and our children loved the VBS programs they hosted so much that they asked Poyis if they could do the same, inviting others into the compound for a program they would host themselves. Our kids are really interested in serving other people, and they continue to show initiative like this in exciting ways. And the community was very responsive—you might have heard us mention that if you invite 100 people to an event in Haiti, you’ll get 150. Haitian culture is very relational, and at the same time, there aren’t many organized things kids can participate in (even the schools are limited in their capacities), so when a church puts on an event where there’ll be a time of fun, games, snacks, all centered around relationships, that’s huge. We had 250 kids total at this VBS, and we’re praising the Lord for the way He’s using our Children’s Homes to be a light in their community.

In addition to the Bible distribution and VBS, our Vocational Training Center also hosted its first cooking class in December! Despite uncertainty in some areas of life in Haiti, ministry has continued to grow, and we are confident that the gospel is being heard. We are deeply grateful to our generous donors, who enable this work by supporting the church in Haiti.
