Examples of Service, Part 3

Merriam Webster defines the word “serve” as: “to furnish or supply with something needed or desired.” Servants, then, are those who meet the needs or consider the desires of others. That’s the example we see in Christ, and that’s the path we’re called to walk as His followers. When we look to the needs and desires of others, we are actively striving to fulfill both the first and second greatest commandments: to love God with all our hearts, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Today, we’re considering a few more examples from the New Testament of Christians who have [...]

Walk for Restaveks Recap (October 2023)

At Connect 2 Ministries, our mission is to support international churches and pastors by fostering a sound biblical foundation in ministry. Our ministry to restavek children flows from that goal. As our pastors came to know Christ personally and understand His heart for the lost more deeply, they also became convicted of the need to stand against the restavek system in Haiti. The goal has never been to end slavery or to fully right the wrongs of a fallen world. Jesus will do that when He comes again. But as Christians, we believe it is our responsibility to do good [...]

Examples of Service, Part 2

As Christians, much of what we do is not original. We love because He loved us; we give because Christ gave all for us; we serve because we have been served so well. And that model couldn’t be more beautiful. Our Christian witness is a reflection of the ultimate care and love we have in Christ, and the same is true for the lives of every believer who’s ever lived. To that end, we’re looking today at a few more examples of service from believers in the New Testament. Acts 9:36 "In Joppa, there was a disciple named Tabitha (in [...]

Walk for Restaveks (October 2023)

One of our top goals at Connect 2 Ministries is to provide safe and loving homes for restavek children, offering them food, shelter, education, and most importantly, the love of Christ, on a daily basis. However, this goal comes with challenges. Over the last two years, the country of Haiti has faced severe social and political turmoil. We have struggled to send food and supplies in our previous capacity, and our ministry partners have felt the effects. Due to this scarcity, our Children’s Homes need both prayer and financial support, now more than ever, to continue providing care for [...]

Examples of Service, Part 1

Examples are powerful. One of the best ways we learn is by watching other people and imitating what they do, and the Bible gives us practical examples for that reason. We see good and bad models in the pages of Scripture, and those stories give us a framework to consider as we live our own lives. Today, we’re looking at some examples from the New Testament of people who served others well. Luke 10:33–34 “But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and [...]

The Cholera Crisis

According to the World Health Organization, “Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.”1 Cholera induces high-volume fluid loss that can progress to shock and ultimately death. The National Library of Medicine’s website cites an estimate of more than four million cases per year, worldwide.2 Cholera developed as a major health crisis in Haiti amid relief efforts following the 2010 earthquake. It started in a camp of foreign volunteers, probably with a leak in their sewage system. From there, the disease easily infected the ground water—and once cholera infects [...]

The Source of Hope, Part 2

One of the central goals of Connect 2 Ministries is sharing the hope of Christ with those around us. Whether in conversations with our friends in Haiti or in America, we desire for Christ to be the focus and for that to bring powerful transformation. To that end, here are five key truths to encourage hope in the believer’s life. Our hope is in God’s promises. God has proven Himself faithful, so we rest in His many rich promises to us. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, [...]

The Source of Hope, Part 1

Life is full of challenges. We live in a broken world, and we see that reality in the suffering of God’s people, whether mundane or extraordinary. As Christians, we can face the trials of life with hope instead of despair—but what is the source of our hope? Our hope is in who God is. We trust in God’s character and nature; belief in Him gives us hope. “And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in you.” —Psalm 39:7 “The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.” —Lamentations 3:24 “For [...]

2023 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons resonates with the heart of Connect 2 Ministries. Each year on July 30, we join the global movement to end human trafficking as an extension of our ongoing ministry during the year. More than 120 children rescued from trafficking now call our Regency and Mercy Children’s Homes their home, living in an environment where they are loved, educated, and given a hope-filled future. Over the last two years, Haiti has experienced a prolonged period of social and political crisis. Today, we asked our founder, Greg Barshaw, to share what happens to restavek children [...]

Priorities in Serving

Over the years, our four core pillars have been the guiding principles. We are biblically focused, church centric, invested in compassionate relationships, and rooted in indigenous ministry. There’s a simple reason for that. The challenge in ministry is that if you take too broad of an approach, you end up exhausting your resources quickly and reaching less people as a result. We have seen many organizations come into Haiti and do just that. While they’ve been incredibly responsive to need, doing it without guiding principles means you spend your resources rather than investing them. It’s impossible to feed everyone or [...]
