Excited to Serve

Excited to Serve We talk often about how our kids are growing, but something you might not know is how excited they are to serve others. Recently the flooring in the Children’s Home storage room was redone, so Poyis took an opportunity to involve the kids while putting supplies back after the renovation. These supplies had all been used for previous VBSs—paper, glue, scissors, pencils, and other school supplies—and in the course of putting these things away, Poyis asked a group of the older students what they should do with the extras they were discovering. Their [...]

Pastor Testimony—Louis Jean Lenes

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” —Psalm 1:1–3 Pastor Louis Jean Lenes Pastor Louis Jean Lenes grew up in a Christian home, and he was [...]

Highlights of Ministry

Highlights of Ministry It was hot and humid when we landed in Haiti. The flight was long, and I was looking forward to seeing Pastor Poyis. I got into his car and we headed to Onaville, where the compound and Children’s Homes are located. I was hoping to get as much time with Poyis on this trip as possible, and this car ride proved to be a good start. As we drove, he shared about the current state of affairs in Haiti. The country continues to experience political and social turmoil, but God [...]

Pastor Testimony—Mentor Chrisdonne

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the [...]

Family Life

Family Life I’ve been thinking a lot about a trip to Haiti last summer. We traveled with the goal of making progress on a few projects at the Regency Home and arrived focused and ready to work. As we pulled up, one of the older boys, Johnny, opened the gate for us. Johnny came to our home five years ago, and the growth in this young man’s life over that time has been amazing. You can read his full story here. As the kids in our homes are getting older, many of [...]

Pastor Testimony—Derozier Bernateau

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16 Pastor Derozier Bernateau Pastor Bernateau was raised in a Christian home, and his parents were his earliest model of what it means to follow Christ. Pastor Bernateau’s mother was a faithful servant in the church, and his father was an usher. His family lived in the countryside for his whole life, and it wasn’t until Pastor Bernateau came to Port-au-Prince that the Lord called him to ministry. That specific [...]

Laying a Foundation, Part 3

Laying a Foundation, Part 3 Monday The team was up early and ready to get going. We ate a nice breakfast, spent some quality time together as a group, and started loading the van so that we could be on the road first thing—and then, the van wouldn’t start. Over the span of about half an hour, I watched the Haitian world and the American world collide. The Americans were antsy to start the day, and the Haitians were rolling with the circumstances. When Poyis arrived, he stopped a moment, put his [...]

Pastor Testimony—Charles Michelet

“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.” —Psalm 27:10 Pastor Charles Michelet Some of you may know Pastor Charles Michelet, one of the Haitian pastors we have the honor of doing ministry with. Pastor Michelet came to Onaville with his family in 2012, and the very next year, he organized a small group to study God’s Word. That small group began to grow and became a church not long after, as Pastor Michelet began to study at a Bible school. Last fall, we sent a team [...]
