Today, the global movement to bring awareness on human trafficking touches the heart of each of as at Connect 2 Ministries closely. Over 100 children rescued from trafficking now call our Regency and Mercy Children’s Homes their home, and they refer to Pastor Frandy Poyis as their Papi.

One of these children is Johnny, and his testimony is incredible. Johnny was the oldest of 7 children, but his mother could not afford to keep him. A common and acceptable practice in Haiti is for a parent to try and secure a better life for their child by selling them. So Johnny became a restavek. His mom had no idea that he would be abused and enslaved. Thankfully, the Brigade for the Protection of Minors (BPM) was able to retrieve him from his enslavement. BPM then contacted Pastor Poyis and brought Johnny to the Regency Children’s Home. Over the last 4 years, Johnny has grown from a boy into a young man.

In December, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized by Pastor Poyis during the Christmas service. Just as we hope and pray for each child that comes to one of our Homes, Johnny also professed forgiveness towards his abuser – a transformation only the power of the Gospel could perform.

Today when you visit the Children’s Homes, you’ll find Johnny excelling in the classroom, on the soccer field, and as a natural leader among his brothers and sisters. Over the last few months alone, he has taken on extra responsibilities as Pastor Poyis has wisely limited staff from entering/exiting the Homes during COVID-19. Johnny is excited to pursue a career as an engineer and one day be a leader in his country.

The ministry team and the children are eagerly awaiting the arrival of more brothers and sisters rescued from slavery. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, there has been a delay in receiving the children we had hoped to meet. Psalm 139 reminds us that God cares even more deeply for these children than we do, and that each child was fearfully and wonderfully in His image. We give thanks that God knows each child’s name and face, and we eagerly anticipate knowing each child, too.

Here are some ways you can join us in our efforts to provide the hope of Christ in a country where human trafficking is legal:

  • Pray with us that the Haitian government will deem human trafficking as illegal.
  • Pray for our Haitian staff who care for and minister to our rescued children every day.
  • Pray for each child in our Homes to know the healing salvation of Jesus Christ.
  • Sponsor a child from one of our Homes [link to Sponsor a Child page].
  • Share about Connect 2 Ministries’ efforts today with your family & friends.

How are you standing against human trafficking today? We would love to hear from you!
