“I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.” —1 Corinthians 1:10

Pastor Marc Jean Louis Maitre

Pastor Marc Jean Louis Maitre was raised in a Catholic family. Until recently, Catholicism didn’t permit people to read Scripture for themselves—so the family went to church regularly, but they didn’t have a Bible. In 1991, Pastor Louis Maitre’s family moved from Port-au-Prince to the countryside, because it was safer to live away from the city. By God’s providence, the uncle whom the family moved in with was a Christian; Pastor Louis Maitre began reading the Bible he had in the house, and God started to soften his heart. He read Mark 16, and learned about sin and the need for repentance. Pastor Louis Maitre turned from his sin, believed in Jesus, and was baptized soon after.

As he grew in his faith, Pastor Louis Maitre’s pastor asked him to study God’s Word so he could be useful for the church. He spent more and more time studying Scripture and learning from older men in his life, and this season was a fruitful one. In 2012, Pastor Maitre stepped into a pastoral role at his church, where he currently serves in full-time ministry.

Please pray for this church and the surrounding community. Pray that the Lord would continue to grow this group of believers spiritually, and that He would provide more opportunities for evangelism. You can also pray for Pastor Louis Maitre’s wife, Elizabeth, as she cares for their three sons while fighting an ongoing illness.
