Protein is the most expensive grocery item in Haiti. In third-world countries, poverty means that expensive necessities like this are hard to come by, and that lack creates a public health crisis. Our goal over the last few years has been to address food instability by providing churches and families with accessible sources of protein through partnerships like the one we have with MANA Nutrition.

MANA Nutrition provides Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF) to address malnutrition in third-world countries. Since the beginning of 2025, protein deficiency has become an increasing concern in Haiti—both in general, and for our ministry specifically. Our Onaville compound was equipped with resources to raise chickens and other animals for protein, but this changed as many communities were forced into migration by gang violence in the Port-au-Prince area.

For instance, Cap Haitien (formerly a town of 300,000 people) is now a city with a population closer to two million because of the influx of refugees fleeing the gang-controlled south for the north, where things are relatively safe. These population shifts have compromised access to many resources, but especially protein. To maintain protein access in an agrarian society would mean bringing all your animals as you fled, which is unrealistic for obvious reasons.

By partnering with MANA Nutrition, our goal is to help families with the most expensive part of their existence. Providing protein supplements is one way we can address food instability while strengthening ties with the local community, all with the goal of building relationships for the gospel.
