One of the most practical ways we serve the church in Haiti is through short-term ministry trips. Teams from our US partner churches come to serve and encourage the church in Haiti in a variety of ways, and it’s always a refreshing time for those involved. Today, we asked John, one of the volunteers from our February team, to share some reflections from the trip.

The trip was great. The new property has so much potential, and I really enjoyed getting some construction projects done. I also loved seeing how much the kids have grown physically and spiritually since a few years ago when I saw them last. They were leading each other in worship and devotion time in the evenings, and you could tell they’ve built a strong bond among themselves.

I got to share some pictures with them from a visit to the Regency Children’s Home in 2017 and 2018. The kids loved pointing out everyone and saying their names. There was a picture of my wife with a young girl, so the other girls went and got that same girl, and I took a picture with her. Then that not-so-young-girl wrote a nice note that I brought home to my wife along with our new picture.

Seeing the joy the children have, even though they don’t have much compared to kids in the US, was encouraging to me. They truly are content. It was a good opportunity to remember what’s actually important and put God first in all that I do.

As Christians, we’re called to share Christ and support the growth of the church. This is where relationships can be built and disciples can be made. I love how Connect 2’s ministry in-country flows through the hands of Haitian leaders. The Haitian church is raising up future Haitian leaders in these kids by loving and providing for them and teaching them about Jesus.
